 Note:

In Sep  08  we will offer  Semester 1  of the Young Child programme and  Semester 4, for continuing students.

For 4½ to 7 year olds the programme lays the foundations for future musical learning.

Semester 1 of Kindermusik for the Young Child opens the world to new and different ways of learning about music. Some of the favorite themes we'll explore include "Music is Everywhere", "Meet the Mallets", and "Discovering Melody and Mozart". The focus and content include beat versus no beat, percussion instruments, brass instruments, melodic direction, exploring the staff, and music notation. Semester 1 also introduces the Kindermusik Glockenspiel, a pre-keyboard instrument. There are Music At Home activities every week that you can participate in with your child to share the musical fun and learning.

Semester 2 further develops the child's instrument playing skills on the glockenspiel. We learn to sing and play several more songs and learn more about musical notation. New musical concepts, ensemble playing, more orchestral understanding and additional composers are  introduced to the child.

Semester 3 builds on the child's natural interest in musical instruments with the introduction of the two-stringed dulcimer. Further skills on the glockenspiel  are also developed.

Semester 4 explores multicultural music from Japan to Hawaii to Africa, just to name a few. Children will learn basic notation concepts on their first wind instrument - the recorder - while gaining confidence and appreciation for their own musical gifts.

Kindermusik for the Young Child
Age Range:
4 ½ to 7 years.

Class Structure:
4 units, each 18 to  20 weeks

Class Length:
60  minutes.

Listen as your child astonishes you with her newfound ability to create musical compositions. Kindermusik for the Young Child provides a pressure-free, developmentally appropriate transition to musically succeed before taking on more formal instruction. Kindermusik provides the opportunity to explore voice development, rhythm, notation, musical symbols and authentic pre-keyboard, string and woodwind instruments.

Young Child helps every child develop a confident, joyful voice for singing and speaking as well as essential building blocks for a future of learning. Designed for children ages 4½ to 7 years, classes meet once a week for 60-75 minutes. Students explore many facets of the musical experience-speaking, singing, moving, dancing, listening, creating and playing instruments, as well as learning about reading and writing music. As the capstone to the child's Kindermusik journey, Young Child broadens and deepens the child's introduction to the fulfillment and excitement of musicianship.

Benefits for Your Child and You

Enjoy the Journey All Week Long
Kindermusik is much more than a weekly class. And your At Home materials you receive from your educator are just the tools you need to continue that one-of-a-kind experience together as a family. While we plant the seeds of learning through music in the classroom, you will use the At Home materials at home to cultivate lifelong learning.

Family involvement in your child’s learning is a fundamental cornerstone of the Kindermusik philosophy because we believe the parent is the child’s most important teacher and the home is the most important place for a child’s learning to take root and grow. After all, there’s no better way to nurture your child’s development – and you’ll love doing it together – every day!
